Our story

From Board Games for Training to Outside Mind Games

Before it was called Outside Mind Games, the company worked under the Board Games for Training brand. The name said exactly what it did: putting modern board games to work for companies, in team building events, skills development programmes and Strategy Clubs.

Over time, bespoke board game publishing and escape games were added, outdoors in Évora or indoors. The old name was no longer enough for everything the company does.

One brand

Today, corporate events, escape games and game publishing are brought together under a single brand: Outside Mind Games®, a registered trademark of Manobras de Brincadeira, Lda.

Who’s behind it

Carlos Ramos

Founder and CEO of Outside Mind Games, Carlos Ramos specialises in integrating modern board games into management and leadership skills development. He began his career as a finance director in the industrial sector and has been involved in training in management, leadership and finance ever since.

From 2000, at Mixgest, he provided consultancy in vocational training, management support and economic and financial studies to dozens of public and private organisations. For ten years, he was vice-president of Crestcom in Portugal, an international soft skills development company. There he worked with managers of many nationalities, in leading companies in their markets.

That’s more than 25 years of consultancy and training. They shape the way he works with companies: every game serves a purpose and the debriefing connects what happens at the table with real work.

Education and credentials

Degree in Economics from the University of Évora, specialising in Business Economics.

Postgraduate degree in Auditing and Statutory Audit from ISCTE.

Accredited trainer with Crestcom International (USA) and the Institute of Leadership & Management (UK).

Team and partners

A team behind every game

Every project brings together the right people: those who create the game, those who produce it and those who run it.

Game masters

In the outdoor escape games, a game master follows each team remotely, from start to finish.

Facilitators

At corporate events, sessions are run by a qualified, experienced professional who uses the debriefing to bridge the gap between the game and the workplace.

Game designers

The published games are designer games: Nuno Santos created Montado and João Quintela Martins created ODS: Jogo de Cartas.

Illustration and graphic design

In Montado, the illustration is by Alberto Faria and the graphic design by Joana Novais. In ODS: Jogo de Cartas, game design, illustration and graphic design are all by João Quintela Martins.

Production

In game publishing, production takes place in a European factory with CE certification.
